A philosophical issue (classic trav)
When it comes to uni i'm a bit ...careless really. I don't take a lot of notice about my enrolements and all that...i usually just expect it'll work itself out.
I'm in 3rd and 4th year. The 4th years were away on rounds during term 3 and the third years away in term 4. I'm at uni doing 3rd year subjects when they are present and in 4th year subjects when they are present.
At the start of semester i'm enrolled in this subject called philosophy. I knew the teacher but he was suprised to see me and said i wasnt on the roll....i assumed it was a mistake and he wrote my name down. I didn't know anyone but that's not unusual. Each week he kept marking me off...marking my assignments...and i never got around to check if i was enrolled. I was on WebCT so no dramas i thought.
Anyway on monday the 4th years were back! and they said "Barnesy you wagged philosophy last wednesday"
I was a tad suprised as i didn't know there was a 4th year philosophy subject. "It's all good barnesy we let you join our group for the presentation, just turn up on wednesday to the lecture and tutorial"
I could have checked with someone, but i figured i'd been enrolled in a subject i didn't know about and thought i'd turn up. Now i'm doing 2 philosophy subjects: a 3rd year and a 4th year. I turned up to the lecture and it sounded very similar to a lot of the content i'd been doing in the 3rd year philosophy subject. I assumed it was revision for the 4th years.
The lecture was easy coz i'd heard this stuff just weeks earlier and i wandered into the tute group and then i noticed something was odd
In 3rd year philosophy they did presentations, debates and wrote reflections. In 4th year they had the same structure but also all their work was on the same content. Today there was a presentation that was identical to one i'd been to 6 weeks ago, the homework tasks were the same as well.
Confused i asked a friend in 4th year whether he did a philosophy class in third year but he looked blanky at me. I asked the lecturer about it, she looked at me dumbfounded when i told her i'd been going to this 3rd year philosophy class.
Lecturer: "Travis did you notice that their aren't any P.E students in that subject"
Travis: "Oh......OH! their all human movement students!"
Lecture: "You didn't notice?"
Travis: "Well ...i'm pretty used to not knowing anyone in class so not really"
I was not doing 2 different philosophy subjects, I was doing 2 philosophy subjects that were identical and attending the one i wasn't enrolled in. The poor course coordinator is "working something out for me"

Trav I’m disappointed here you are trying to get through uni in the least amount of time possible and now you are doubling up on the same unit??? Are you trying reverse psychology or is uni finally getting to you?? I always wondered how people become full time students. They confuse you and make you do the same stuff over and over!

I think after i finish 5 years at uni i'll walk out of my final class and someone will meet me holding up a giant sign saying: Return to start.
and i'll walk into first year anatomy and do it all over again.
